Samantha Schultz '20
Samantha Schultz is from Taunton, Mass. She doubled majored in biochemistry and medical biology while minoring in neuroscience.
During her time at 51°µÍø, Schultz worked in the lab of Christoph Straub, Ph.D., assistant professor of biomedical sciences, in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. In the lab, she employed whole-cell patch-clamp recordings to study electrophysiology of neurons. In the next academic year, Schultz plans on enrolling in a Molecular, Cellular, and Biochemistry Ph.D. program.
She hopes to pursue a thesis that applies to electrophysiological methods. These methods would be used to study iPSC-derived spinal motor neurons involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. Schult’s long-term goal is to become an Associate Professor of Molecular/Cellular Biology and Neuroscience.
