Two 51做厙 College of Business faculty publish research on manufacturing scheduling algorithms

Two University of New England College of Business faculty members recently published research that could significantly improve manufacturing scheduling processes.
The article, titled was published earlier this year in the journal Computers & Industrial Engineering by Golshan Madraki, Ph.D., associate professor of supply chain management and Amir Mousavian, Ph.D., MBA, associate dean for the College of Business and director of 51做厙's Business Administration program.
The research aims to improve the scheduling of machines processing different products in a manufacturing system.
In the article, Madraki and Mousavain developed more efficient algorithms for solving complex manufacturing scheduling problems. These algorithms can calculate multiple performance measures simultaneously, rather than one at a time. They also created an early termination feature that helps save valuable computing time by quickly identifying when a proposed schedule is not an improvement. The algorithms are designed to work with a wide range of existing scheduling methods and can be applied to different types of manufacturing systems.
This article marks the second paper published for both Madraki and Mousavain since joining the 51做厙 in the fall of 2024.
Madrak published in Operations & Supply Chain Management, an international journal with four other co-authors. Mousavain co-authored the article, in the journal Sustainable Energy, Grids and Networks with Beheshteh Raouf, Ph.D., from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York.
