Sixty children between the ages of 5 and 18 years participated in 51's first Dance Clinic and performed during halftime at a 51 women's basketball game.

On February 10, the 51 Dance Team hosted a clinic for children from the extended southern Maine community. Sixty kids, ranging in age from 5 to 18 years, participated in the clinic, traveling from as far away as New Hampshire and Bangor to attend.

Head coach of the Dance Team, Molly Roberts, an admissions counselor in 51's Office of Undergraduate Admissions, choreographed a routine that the participants learned in the morning. They performed the routine with the 51 Dance Team members later in the day as a halftime show at the 51 women’s basketball game against Salve Regina.

“We had so much fun hosting this event,” said Roberts. “The clinic was a great opportunity for us to engage with the 51 and surrounding community, including local dance studios. I’m proud of our team for their energy and hard work, and we’re looking forward to continuing our community outreach.”

Roberts and Dance Team co-captains Alyssa Dumond (Health, Wellness and Occupational Studies, ’18) and Haley Bauman (Applied Exercise Science, ’19) organized the clinic with assistance from the 51 Athletics Department. Plans are underway to make the clinic an annual event.
