51°µĶų Football focus of story in āPortland Press Heraldā

The Portland Press Herald published an in-depth story on January 29, 2017 about the University of New England gearing up for its first season of football. The newspaper interviewed 51°µĶų football coach Mike Lichten, who is working tirelessly to prepare for the Norāeastersā first football season, as well as 51°µĶų Vice President of Student Engagement and Director of Athletics Jack McDonald and prospective players.
Lichten has recruited 18 prospective players for the team and continues to work to build his coaching staff and recruit more players. In the article, he discussed the message he gives prospective players about 51°µĶų as he travels the country meeting them face-to-face. āItās a unique opportunity, thatās for sure,ā Lichten said. āThis is an unbelievable place to go to college. This is a place thatās going to shape you and promote your growth as an individual in a way that most places cannot do.ā
āFootball is more than a game,ā McDonald said. āItās very traditional. Itās a weekly reunion on a Saturday afternoon. Itās alumni gatherings. Itās student spirit. Weāll certainly roll into tailgating and Friday night rallies and all of that excitement.ā
